So Body Co Weight Loss Shakes Review

CollaSlim is produced by So Body Co and bills itself as “the first meal replacement shake with collagen protein”. They claim their low calorie shake can replace one or two meals per day, to support your diet, help you lose weight, and boost the quality of your hair, skin, and muscles.

Unfortunately, while all these selling points definitely sound enticing, everything is not as it seems. So, before you waste your money, let us show you exactly why CollaSlim is not the dream weight loss meal replacement shake it makes itself out to be.

CollaSlim Meal Replacement Shake With Collagen Protein Review

The So Body Co weight loss shake formula includes whey protein concentrate, skimmed milk powder, oat flour (gluten free), natural flavouring, Sobody vitamin and mineral blend, thickener (xanthan gum), l cystine, sweetener (sucralose), and peptan marine collagen.

Now, while all these ingredients can be useful, there are a number of issues with the formula. Most glaringly is that fact that no ingredient amounts are included. This makes it impossible to know how much of each is present or what sort of effect it will have.

It also makes it easier for lower quality ingredients to be prioritised, such as by using multiple sources of proteins. A similar concern is that, while all the ingredients can be useful, they are mostly cheaper, less effective versions of the ingredients seen on the top shakes of this kind.

Moving on from the ingredients, the overall nutrition profile is an issue as well. With just 146 calories per serving or 206 when made with almond milk, it simply doesn’t contain enough calories to be used as a major part of your diet.

The amount of carbs and fats present are also extremely low, at 8.7 and 2 grams per serving, respectively. Even the amount of proteins per serving is low, despite this being largely what the product is made of.

Considering So Body Co price their product similarly to top options on the market, it is simply a waste of money. Shakes like Rootana are far more effective, while actually being able to replace whole meals and not being much more expensive.

CollaSlim Meal Replacement Shake Ingredients

Whey Protein Concentrate

Whey concentrate is obtained from cow’s milk and is proven to be extremely beneficial for muscle growth and maintenance, as well as fat loss. Also being incredibly easy for the body to digest, whey is one of the most effective and popular proteins around (1).

The problem is none of the ingredients have their actual quantities listed. This means you don’t know what percentage of the overall protein content is whey or if there is enough present to be of use.

Skimmed Milk Powder

Skimmed milk powder is a dehydrated form of cows milk that has had much of its fat content removed. It is sometimes added to supplements as it has a high protein, calcium, vitamin a, and vitamin d content (2).

Unfortunately, its inclusion in a supplement that contains other types of proteins can often be a red flag, because it is made up of both whey and casein proteins.

This allows it to mask the true quantities of each of the proteins present, so manufacturers can pump their products full of the cheaper, less effective varieties. It is especially alarming in products like this, which already hide the amounts of each ingredient used.

Peptan Marine Collagen

Peptan marine collagen is a type of protein made from a collection of multi collagen peptides obtained from fish. Scientific studies show it has anti ageing benefits, like promoting strong, youthful skin, hair, and nails, supporting muscles, and easing the symptoms of arthritis (3).

While it certainly has its advantages, it is unfortunately not quite as diverse as bovine collagen supplements. This is because, while marine collagen only contains Type I collagen, bovine collagen contains Type I and Type III collagen.

Not only does this allow bovine collagen to promote a wider range of beneficial effects, it is also slightly cheaper, meaning the price of the product won’t be artificially inflated, which can be an issue with those including collagen sourced from fish.

Oat Flour (Gluten Free)

Gluten free oat flour is a great source of fibre, protein, and a broad range of minerals.

It has many selling points, including reducing the risk of heart disease, preventing blood sugar spikes, regulating blood sugar, boosting energy levels, improving the health of the skin and digestive system, and promoting weight loss (4).

However, there are some drawbacks to using it as well. Not only is it very high in calories, it also doesn’t boast quite the range of nutrients and benefits that wheat flour does. While it is a good option for people who can’t eat gluten, everyone else would be better with wheat flour.

L-Cystine

L-cystine is an amino acid that can help the human body to synthesise coenzyme a, proteins, glutathione, sulphate, and taurine (5). However, there are two issues with its inclusion.

First, as a non essential amino acid, most healthy adults naturally have enough cysteine in their system, meaning there is no need to supplement with it. Then there is the fact that top meal replacements shakes like Rootana will contain a range of essential amino acids instead.

This makes much better use of the space available in the product and allows it to produce significantly better results. Cystine therefore seems to have been included largely so So Body Co can say their shake includes amino acids on the label.

Sweetener (Sucralose)

Sucralose is a calorie free artificial sweetener that contains no nutrients, and its only purpose in a drink is to provide added sweetness.

While it is a calorie free alternative to sugar and won’t spike your blood sugar, it can reduce the good bacteria in your gut, and cause inflammation, obesity, and diabetes (6). The benefits of using it over sugar or other artificial sweeteners are therefore outweighed by the negatives.

SoBody Vitamin And Mineral Blend

The SoBody Vitamin and Mineral Blend includes vitamins a, b6, b12, c, d3, e, k1, biotin, copper, calcium, folic acid, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, selenium, thiamine, and zinc.

This range is quite diverse and can offer a broad range of advantages. However, when each shake is designed to replace an entire meal, it still leaves something to be desired.

Complete balanced meal replacement shakes like Rootana offer a greater range, making them more desirable and much better for your health.

Natural Flavouring And Thickener (Xanthan Gum)

Xanthan gum is included in the main ingredients but serves no nutritional purpose and is only included in supplements to boost their appearance, consistency, flavour, texture, and shelf life.

It should be noted, however, that similar supplements will often use more than one such ingredient, meaning they will likely last and mix better, while being more drinkable.

Natural flavourings are also listed on the label, although there is no mention of what they are. This doesn’t give people the opportunity to do their own research on the ingredients of a product and makes it far less transparent that other similar shakes.

Customers So Body Co CollaSlim Shakes Reviews

CollaSlim currently holds a respectable 4 out of 5 star rating. However, the individual reviews themselves are a little more revealing than its overall score.

Positive reviews focus almost totally on the taste and convenience of the product. They say if you mix the powder in 400ml of almond milk and shake well, you’ll quickly have a tasty shake to support your diet. Others say similar things when you use water or skimmed milk too.

The negative reviews, on the other hand, are much more telling. Issues mentioned range from a “disgusting” taste, texture, and smell, to feeling no difference, still feeling hungry even right after consuming a shake, and getting side effects like stomach cramps and constipation.

This confirms what we have already established, which is that, while some may enjoy drinking the So Body Co shake, most people won’t find it beneficial.

Final Thoughts On The So Body Co Meal Replacement Shake

The CollaSlim shake offers a lot but delivers very little. It won’t fill you up and many people find it undrinkable, while the secrecy around its ingredient quantities makes it impossible to know what effects to expect, even if we know most of the ingredients are low quality.

You’re therefore much better served sticking to a proven meal replacement like Rootana. It does virtually everything CollaSlim claims to and actually keeps you feeling full, while costing only slightly more, making it a better option in every area.
